Plastic Epidemic

Plastic pollution is one of the major issues of the 21st century. Over the last 10 years we have produced more plastic than during the whole of the last century.

50% of the plastic we use, we use just once and then throw away. Yet it takes between 500 - 1,000 years for plastic to degrade. Every year 8 million metric tons of plastic end up in our oceans!

Plastics break down very slowly in the marine environment, so the amount of plastics in the ocean increases year on year. And they do not stay still. Many plastics are buoyant, enabling them to float for thousands of miles and affect a wide variety of marine life and sea birds on their travels. One million sea birds and 100,000 marine mammals are killed annually from plastic in our oceans.

Through our Recycled Apparel Kickstarter campaign we hope to encourage people to think about how their purchasing decisions directly impact the environment, to create a more sustainable future and a healthier planet.

We are tackling plastic pollution that is destroying our oceans, by recycling plastic bottles into yarn, which is then blended with 100% organic cotton off cuts that are up-cycled from the wastage of the fashion and textile industry. The garments are made from 100% recycled materials, using a carbon neutral production process that is powered by wind and solar energy. Each t-shirt is made up from approximately 8 plastic bottles, so if we reach our Kickstarter funding goal, together we will be recycling 560 plastic bottles that would otherwise end up in landfill or oceans!
